How Alias Conrad Coldwood champions video game music.

Mortis Ghost's website. pipe "So here’s a picture of a little guy about to jump down a pipe. Looking at this picture with minimal context does nothing for you. But wouldn’t it be fun if we added a little bit of CRIPPLING DREAD? Enter stage right- Alias Conrad Coldwood, his title as a composer is a disservice to his work. He is a sound constructor, building his cacophony of noises and foley combative enough to strike fear into the most weathered of hearts. His work is best known from the video game 'OFF' directed and developed by Mortis Ghost, marketed as 'a nice game for cute children', which is ironic because I've never had a more profound experience playing a game. The atmosphere and its environment would have absolutely nothing to contribute without Coldwood, the game deals with themes of consumerism and addiction, and the soundtrack hits the nail on the head. Each track is stuffed to the brim with little sounds that hook you more and more each time you listen to them, like E numbers. The track “Burned Bodies” is an accolade to how the industrial revolution churned out workers like soldiers to capitalism, each sound building up like separate cogs in a spluttering, rusty machine. If you prefer apprehensive jazz, you might enjoy “Pepper Steak”, a battle theme with an earworm of a chorus that almost convinces you that what you’re doing is definitely the right thing. Each piece instills a guttural fear, echoing a silent moral panic and smothered unrest."
